I am a molecular and structural biologist, interested in modelling 3D structures of protein-nucleic acid complexes.
My PhD project, which I completed in Aarhus-Denmark, was focused on bacterial antibiotic resistance, where I revealed how certain enzymes play a role in bacterial cell cycle to render them resistant to antibiotics.
My current research at MRC-LMB is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and is about understanding the molecular mechanisms of gene expression. I study protein-RNA complexes to understand how mRNA is processed and degraded in the cell and which mechanisms and/or proteins affect this process. As mRNA decay is a strictly regulated process having a central role in mammalian gene expression, understanding this process in detail will answer numerous questions about how, when, where, and why each element is employed during mRNA processing. To understand this at a molecular level, I make use of different techniques, namely crystallography and electron cryo-microscopy, alongside biophysical, biochemical, and genetic techniques. Overall, my interest is to establish the machinery of multi-protein complexes, model their structures, and identify and explain their activities and regulation.
